Food for Thought

Food should be used to nourish your body.

Take a hard look at what you’re using food for in daily life. Are you using sweets to avoid uncomfortable emotions? Are you walking to the fridge because you’re actually hungry or just bored and looking for something to do? Did you notice all the textures, flavors, and balance in the last meal you ate? Do you know how to create a nutritious and tasty meal for yourself?

Food can also be used to nourish your soul.

Cook a tasty meal with your friends. Host a family dinner and play games afterward. Pass along baking traditions around the holidays. Tend a garden to learn more about the food you’re eating and take joy in the fruits of your labor and learning. Tie it all together to cook a garden fresh meal for your friends at a moments notice.

Food is vital for surviving but also for thriving.

Balancing between food to nourish and food to flourish is a dance that needs to be learned throughout your life to match your body and your needs. There is no magic combination that works for every single person; you need to explore the different styles of eating that match your body and your gut just right. Did you know only 30% of adults have the enzyme lactase needed to digest lactose in their stomach, and the other 70% of people have some sort of lactose intolerance because the remainder of the digestive tract is attempting to digest that lactose still, usually resulting in extra gas production. Some people lack the enzyme to digest gluten. Some people don’t like the smell of cilantro. Some people thrive on low carb diets; some people thrive on low fat diets. I don’t yet know the science behind all of these differences on a cellular level, but I’m so curious about how all of these things impact people’s relationship with food.

Come with me to discover different ways to look at your relationship with food. I’ll share what’s worked for me, what didn’t, and whatever else might pop up along this journey
